WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
What is high blood pressure?
High blood pressure, also called hypertension, occurs when the force of blood pushing against the walls of your blood vessels is too high. This condition can lead to serious health problems, such as a stroke or heart attack. Because it usually does not cause symptoms, checking your blood pressure is the only way to know if it is high. A normal blood pressure reading is below 120/80 mmHg. If you have high blood pressure, it's important to see your healthcare provider at least once a year for an in-person evaluation. High blood pressure can change over time and needs regular follow-up to ensure you are on the most appropriate medication for your condition. You can also monitor your blood pressure at home using a home blood pressure monitor.
